Hampshire Illustrated Book Award 2007

  • The Hampshire Illustrated Book Award was introduced in 2004 to promote the enjoyment of reading, whilst at the same time drawing the attention of readers in Year 5 (9-10 year olds) towards the picture book genre.
  • 2,246 pupils from 56 different schools took part in 2007.
  • The young judges were asked to focus on the 3 "Ps" of Picture Power, Picture Position and Picture Pleasure, and their teachers were supported by valuable notes provided by the County Inspector / Advisor for Art.
  • Schools were able to post their opinions on the books on the Hampshire Book Award's Wikispace
  • All of the young judges and their schools were presented with full colour certificates in recognition of their participation
  • The winning title was Castles by Colin Thompson.               Find out more about all six titles on the shortlist.
  • From the outset, the books proved a huge success:
  • "Our class loves them.  Somebody said the books were as fun as a new playground." Pupil from Kings Copse Primary School
  • "The pictures are incredibly imaginative and also exciting". Pupil from Stanmore Primary School
  • " I really loved this book because the author really has a big imagination and I didn't like the fire one that was quite scary.  Out of this book, I have many favourites but my personal favourite castle was the rose castle because it was pretty and colourful." Pupil from Ringwood Primary School.
