Loans Service

The School Library Service has a unique range of books, DVDs and story CDs and cassettes to cover the age group from four to sixteen, available for loan by all subscribing schools. Your Service Level Agreement provides details of the number of resources your school is entitled to borrow from us.

School Library Service resources are:

• Professionally selected
• Targeted for National Curriculum needs
• Available for bulk and short term loan
• Updated regularly by means of exchange

Exchanges

Primary schools

• A minimum of two exchanges a year, either by mobile or at the most convenient SLS centre.  This could be the centre closest to your home address if that is more convenient than attending your school's official SLS base.  
• Choose a combination of mobile and base exchanges to suit your requirements  A mobile can visit your school twice a year.  Exchanges at SLS centres can occur termly.  
• The maximum number of resources you can exchange in one year is specified in your Service Level Agreement.

Secondary schools

• A minimum of two exhanges a year at the most convenient SLS centre.
• The maximum number of resources you can exchange in any one year is specified in your Service Level Agreement

Additional leasing

If you want to make your book budget stretch further, you can lease additional resources from the SLS to supplement your usual loan entitlement.  Two options are available:

Option A

• Lease up to an additional 500 items @£3.05 per item and exchange within your standard allocation.

Option B

• Lease up to a maximim of 500 items @ £3.75 per item and exchange your normal allocation plus 25% of the additional leasing figure.

This represents great value for money, as an average book price is now approximately £9, and allows greater flexibility to support topic work within the school.  For further details, contact your Area Schools Librarian.
