Promoting reading

The School Library Service supports reading and encourages a love of books among all ages.  We provide:

• Online curriculum and literacy related booklists
• Transition booklist leaflets for new Reception, Year 2/3, Year 6/7, Year 8/9 and Year 11/12 pupils
• Family reading support
• Fiction meetings for teachers and librarians
• Staff meetings to promote new fiction
• Book week support (See information sheets in subscriber area)
• Resources support for author visits
• Reading Trail support for Special schools
• Ideas for authors who can visit schools
• Support packs for shadowing national book awards

We also offer a range of reader promotion experiences :

• 'Meet the Author' events around the county
• Participation in the Hampshire book awards aimed at Year 1 (Hampshire Picture Book Award), Year 5 (Hampshire Illustrated Book Award) and Year 8 (Hampshire Book Award)
• Reduced rates for reader promotion magazine, TbK
