South Winchester Park and Ride

Customer Survey November 2010

We have now finished analysing and formally reporting the results of the user questionnaire carried out in November 2010.

The ‘headlines’ from the user questionnaire survey show that:

  • Shortly after opening in April 2010, ticket sales were around 150 per week rising to nearer 2,000 per week in October/November.
  • Single occupancy car drivers are the most common user.
  • Most users travel from the south of the county, mainly the Southampton area, Eastleigh and Chandler’s Ford.
  • Busiest use is during peak times (between 0700-0900 in the morning and 1600-1800 in the evening)
  • Users are most likely to work at the hospital or Hampshire County Council.
  • Most common reasons for using the service are because it is cheaper than alternatives, the cost of town centre parking and the car park is convenient to the route in or home.
  • Some users are no longer able to park at their workplace so are adjusting to using the park and ride service instead.
  • Comments on the service were generally positive with some areas of concern – refer to the monitoring report for more details.

Alongside the user survey, we undertook a traffic study to look at the effects of the new service on the road network – especially Romsey Road and St Cross Road.  Please refer to the monitoring report for more details:
