Andover Sports Award Winners Announced

More than 300 people attended the Andover Sports Awards in December which saw local people rewarded for their dedication to sport throughout the local area in 2012.

The celebratory event gave awards to local people who had achieved the most or inspired a generation this year. The special evening, organised by Valley Leisure and held at the Andover Leisure Centre, started with a fantastic display from the Andover Gymnastic Club acrobatics display team before the nominees were called to the stage and the winners announced.

"We're blessed with an enormous amount of talent in this town," said Kevin Paterson, Chief Executive at Vally Leisure. "It was extremely difficult to choose one winner in each category. We could have given the award to them all."

The winners included Liz Hall, who won the Service to Sport Award for her 30 years of commitment to Andover Cricket Club's colts team. Liz, who is in her 80s, has given support to the club at every level and continues to do so even in her retirement.

All the winners will now be entered into the Sport Hampshire & IOW Sports Awards to be held on Wednesday 20 March at St Mary's Stadium in Southampton.
