HTAS March update

March 2013

Badminton
Libby McMorrow and her doubles partner Evie Burbidge emerged victorious with a series of big wins, including those over established Team England names Nicola Ho and 3rd seeds, Holly Garrett and Kerry Leaney at the Under 15 English National Age Group Badminton Championships.

Canoeing
Emily Hewitt raced Waterside C, which is a long distance race of 23 miles and 35 portages. She did this race in K2 and won the junior ladies k2 category.

Diving
Bethany Watts scored a personal best at the Senior National Diving Competition, in Plymouth finishing 6th in the final and achieving a silver junior medal.

Hockey
Ollie Nail won the Junior Male category for the Havant Borough Council Sports Awards as well as the overall sports person of the year.

Netball
Laura Rudland was part of Team South for their win over Celtic Dragons in an National Talent League game. She recently went to Newcastle for British Colleges National Squad training weekend before their game against Northern Ireland.

Sailing
Luke Burywood and his partner won their class at the International Grand Prix Sailing Regetta in Vila Blanes, Spain.

Jake Farren-Price competed at the four-day Sail the Gulf regatta in Doha, Qatar over the half term holiday and came second overall in the Laser 4.7 fleet behind the top-ranked South African 4.7 sailor. Jake was selected to be part of the GBR Worlds and Europeans team after selection events that concluded in February.

Shooting
Caroline Brownlie shot a personal best (379 out of 400) at the British Championships, a new Scottish record. In the Ladies Championship she got into the final in 6th place and shot well to finish 5th.

Katherine Maskell won bronze in the Junior Women's Air Rifle at the British Championships, and gold in the Class B Air Rifle Aggregate.

Oliver Vass took part in the British Open Junior Men's Air Rifle Championships (10 metre) qualification and made it into the final, coming 4th overall. The Juniors goes up to under 21s. He also won a silver medal in his class aggregate - actually coming joint first but lost to the first place due to the number of 'tens'. Oliver was also chosen to be part of the Junior Team going to Oldenburg in Germany in May.

Squash
Kyle Finch has been selected to play for the U15 squash England team in the 5 Nations Championship in Paris. He is now ranked number 2 in the country and doing very well in the U17 category. Kyle reached the final of the English Closed National Squash Championships last weekend, against 32 of the top players from all around the country.

Table Tennis
Matthew Daish won the Under 13 boys final of the Hampshire Schools Championships at Waterside Table Tennis Centre in Totton. He will now go on to represent Hampshire schools in the ESTTA National Finals in April.

Tae Kwon Do
Brendon Tasker started the competition season with a 1 gold and 1 silver in Hereford and 2 golds in Salisbury.
