HTAS Athlete Update - May
Leanne Davies' winter training programme has paid dividends with her achieving a new personal best Javelin throw of 39.22m which has put her in good stead to reach her season target of 41m. She has a few club matches before the Hampshire Championships at the end of May to improve her distance and make the Hampshire squad for the English Schools Championships to be held in Birmingham in July.
Emily Hewitt competed at the Junior Sprint National Championships and was named Junior Female National Champion in both 200m C1 and 500m C1. She also competed in K1 and K2, reaching the final in the 1000m K1 and 500m K2. She is now working towards selection for the Junior Sprint World Championships.
Gemma McArthur competed at the British Elite Junior Diving Championships 2013 achieving a bronze medal in the 1m springboard. This dive was a personal best and meant she qualified for Europe. Gemma then spent the second week of the Easter holidays at the GB National Junior Development Camp in Plymouth. Gemma got to meet the lord mayor of Plymouth and the Russian diving team. Gemma is hoping to be selected for a Junior International and is investigating if she can represent Scotland as well as Great Britain.
Georgie Wingrove at the British Gas GB Elite Junior Championships. She came 5th on 3m, gained bronze on Platform and is the British Junior Elite Champion on 1m. She has been selected to represent GB at a Junior International event in Dresden.
Sarah White competed in the Junior National Championships where she was awarded a bronze medal on the 3m springboard, and a silver medal on the 10m platform. On the platform she obtained the score of 375 which has qualified her to compete in the Youth International in Dresden representing GB in her age group.
Elsa Wakeman represented England U17s at Netball Europe, where they won gold. She was also selected into the England U19 squad at the end of March.
Luke Burywood and his sailing partner Tim Riley have recently won the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Youth Sailing National Championships 2013 in the 420 Class. Winning this event means that they will represent team GBR at the 2013 Youth World Championships being held in Cyprus this July.
Vikki Payne and her crew Steph Orton won the Ladies Youth National Championship for the 3rd year running in the 29er. They also won the Havant Borough Sports Award for Youth Team of the Year.
Morgan Dibb achieved a silver medal in the 420 Class, at the RYA Youth Championships held in Largs, Scotland.
Gemma Bird and her crew were recently placed 2nd U19 females in the RYA Youth National Championships in Largs, Scotland.
Caroline Brownlie shot in the Scottish Open Championships, coming second in the ladies competition, and winning one of the open competitions (men and women). She also shot two Minimum Consideration Scores for the Commonwealth Games next year in Glasgow.
Jorja Brown was part of the Rushmoor team who retained their British Champions title at the British Synchronised Swimming Championships. Jorja won the technical and free solo events, the technical and free duet event with a new duet partner, the technical and free team event and the highest individual overall score, therefore winning the Hill Trophy. She is now working towards competing in Switzerland at the Swiss Nationals in June.
Tae Kwon Do
Brendon Tasker is now a 2nd Degree Black Belt. Brendon didn't just pass he was named a Best Junior BlackBelt.
Emma Pallant raced in the Gold Coast triathlon in Australia where she came 3rd. She then went on to win a 5km road race. She is now travelling to Florida for a race before returning to England for the rest of the season in Europe.
