Hampshire Talented Athletes achievement update

Members of the Hampshire Talented Athlete Scheme have been busy in the few couple of months. Many were shortlisted for the Hampshire & IOW Sports Awards and. Below are some of the highlights.

Hampshire & IOW Sports Awards

James Clowes and Alex Hammond were shortlisted for the Junior Disability Sportsperson of the Year, with Alice Tai eventually lifting the trophy. Sailor Annabel Vose won the Junior Sportsperson of the Year award but had hot competition from Hannah Parker and Laura Edwards, who were both shortlisted. Table tennis player Hannah Hicks was shortlisted for the Senior Sportswoman of the Year, whilst Henry Lloyd Williams and Sam Batten won Team of the Year.

Disability Cricket

Alex Hammond topped the British Association for Cricketers with Disabilities National League statistics with 527 runs, whilst playing for Hampshire Cricket Bird Bluebird Care Team.

Table Tennis

Letitia McMullan won the Under 15 girls section of the Derby 4 Star Cadet Tournament, one of the top tournaments for Cadets.

Judo

Alex Jones and Sam Potts won silver in their respective weight categories at the Malta Open.

Canoeing

Emily Hewitt won the Fastest Junior Paddler Title at the Sprint Race Series at Silverwing Lake in Staines. She raised £200 from cake sales, which enabled her to go on a 5 day training camp held at the National Sprint Lake in Nottingham. This was in preparation for the National Selection Regatta. Emily won the Eastleigh Junior Sportswomen of the Year award, held at the Rosebowl.

Ice Hockey

Elliott Dewey was selected for both the U15 England Team and the U16 South East Conference team.

Athletics

Kierra Barker won the National Indoor Under 15 girls High Jump Championships, with a personal best jump of 1.67m. This means she is now ranked number 1 in the UK.

Rugby Union

George Sewell and Ross Catlin have been selected for the England Under 16's South squad.

Olympic Torch

Danielle Harrison and Aaron Phipps have been given places to carry the Olympic Torch
