How long does it normally take to process my application?
Applications are normally processed in order of date received. Our aim is to:
- acknowledge paper applications within two working days of receipt
- fully process paper applications within six weeks from the date we have received all required information and evidence, and
- fully process online applications within four weeks from the date we have received all required information and evidence.
After we have processed your application
Once we have assessed and approved your application, Student Finance Direct (SFD) records are immediately updated with the amount of support you are entitled to receive and the amount of loan you have requested.
A couple of days after we have approved your application, SFD will send you a letter (financial notification) showing the amount of tuition fee loan, maintenance loan you have asked for, and any other grants to which you are entitled.
If you made your application online, you will also be sent a declaration with your notification. You must sign and return this to the address stated on the declaration before any payment of your student support can be made.
If you have asked to take out some or all of the tuition fee loan or maintenance loan, a payment schedule will be sent to you by SFD three to four weeks before your course is due to start. The schedule tells you when your payments will be made, the amount of each payment, and details of the bank/building society into which payments will be made.
