DfES Sustainable Schools web site

Vision for Hampshire schools:

Hampshire schools will enable children to care for and respect each other, value their local environment and become responsible global citizens.

Who could use this site?

If you are a student, teacher, governor, caretaker, bursar, admin officer or parent... this site is for you!

What could be achieved?

A school which leads by example and develops and manages its own environment efficiently, could use it as a learning tool. This agenda will help schools address the Every Child Matters outcomes, raise achievement, reduce environmental impact and save money on water, energy, waste and purchasing, involve the local community and prepare students for global citizenship. Many Hampshire schools are already progressing towards sustainability.

Where should I start?

Right here!  Go to the Action! pages which have a section on each of the Sustainable School framework 'doorways', including links to further information and specialists who can help in each area.

How can we help?

This web site provides some suggestions for beginning this process, and information about the help available in Hampshire. Please email: sustainable.schools@hants.gov.uk for more information, or phone 023 8081 3437

Tip - Switch off equipment

Switch off monitors at breaks and at the end of the day, and ensure that energy-saving features are set up and activated.

Screen savers do not save electricity, and some use more.
