Bus Rapid Transit

Gosport Wych Lane to close for 10 months on 7 March 2011

Wych Lane will be closed on 7 March for approximately ten months.  Diversions for traffic will be put in place, via Gregson Avenue, Cunningham Drive and the A32 Fareham Road.  This is neceesary to allow us to remove the existing railway bridge over Wych Lane and the diversion of underground utility services in the area around the bridge, which will then allow the new signaled junction to be completed.

Pedestrian and Bus access

  • Pedestrian access will be maintained across the new bus corridor for people to pass along Wych Lane.

Bus diversions will be put in place.

  • Bus Service 88 will be diverted via Nobes Avenue shops, Cunningham Drive and Fareham Road.

  • Services 85 and 86 will also be diverted via Cunningham Drive and Fareham Road.

  • A free shuttle service will be introduced from Nobes Avenue Shops to Tukes Avenue, Brading Avenue, Brewers Lane and Nobes Avenue.  This will operate from 7am to 7pm Monday to Saturday.

Statement by Councillor Mel Kendal, Executive Member for Environment

Councillor Mel Kendal, Executive Member for Environment and Chairman of Transport for South Hampshire, said:

"The works here are particularly complicated and have to be carefully phased to enable a gas main, water main, telecom and electricity cables to be moved safely before the main junction can be completed.

I recognise that this will cause inconvenience but I would like to assure residents that we will do all we can to carry out this work as quickly and efficiently as possible and minimise disruption as far as we can.”
