Transport for South Hampshire

Evidence Base

A large part of Transport for South Hampshire (TfSH)’s work is concerned with identifying the best way to manage and improve transport provision in South Hampshire. So, for example, where there is a major new development planned, we may take a look at options for reducing the effects of the extra traffic that the development could create.  It is important to have a means of understanding the impact of such developments and of testing the suitability (and value for money) of possible transport solutions.  The TfSH Evidence Base Contract has been commissioned to provide such analysis.

The TfSH Evidence Base is a set of interlinked transport and land use models covering the whole of the TfSH area that will identify current and future transport and accessibility problems resulting from planned growth.  To address the problems the model will be used to test differing transport and land use scenarios and identify the impact of transport interventions across all modes. The modelling suite will therefore provide an objective analysis of the interventions that are required to unlock and enable growth and mitigate the negative implications of development.

The model build of the TfSH Evidence Base Contract will be delivered in Spring 2011.

Data Collection

A key element of building the model has been the collection of data, which has included using existing data sources. However, to provide the comprehensive inputs to develop the TfSH Evidence Base, it has been necessary to collect additional data.  The results of this data collection exercise are available in the Report on Surveys, availble for download below
