Our Service – Our Environment
Introduction
Hampshire Trading Standards Service recognise that the care and protection of the environment is one of the most important issues facing society today.
Because of this we take our responsibility to provide advice and guidance to business and consumers on the various environmental legislation which we enforce, very seriously.
The following information highlights our work in this area and gives important guidance for both consumers and business.
Minimising Packaging
One of the legal obligations of The Packaging (Essential Requirements) Regulations 2003 (as amended) is that packaging volume and weight must be reduced to the minimum amount necessary to maintain safety and hygiene whilst still being acceptable to consumers and adequately protecting the product.
Our Work:
We investigate complaints from consumers and business regarding alleged excess packaging.
We carry out market surveillance to identify possible examples of excess packaging. We purchase samples and submit them to appropriate test houses for analysis.
We work with Hampshire based manufacturers, importers and suppliers to advise on how best to comply with the requirements of the regulations.
