Brookvale Loddon Environmental Improvements
Scheme Location
West Ham leisure park, close to the source of the River Loddon, to the town centre facilities and the train station.
Scheme description and objectives
The Brookvale Loddon Environmental Improvements will deliver a general upgrading of the existing cycle route from the Leisure Park to Church Street, for both pedestrians and cyclists. The local environment will also be improved with extra street furniture, including seats, fencing, notice boards and a number of trees at sites where conditions allow.
The scheme is a result of partnership working with Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council and will make road crossing safer, act to moderate traffic speeds and build upon earlier improvements to increase safety and security for users of the route. It will further enhance the Basingstoke town cycle network, creating links between important origins and destinations, as well as implementing noticeable improvements to the local environment.
How the general public were consulted
The scheme was presented at the Brookvale Green Fair in 2009 and 2010, where it received overwhelming support from attendees, and has been designed following further consultation with local County Cllr Hussey, Basingstoke College of Technology and the Brookvale Community Association.
