Equality impact assessment

Equality Impact Assessment is a systematic way of finding out how a policy (or proposed policy), service or strategy will affect different groups. The process is designed to tackle institutional discrimination within the public sector, and ensure that policies, services and strategies are not impacting in a discriminatory way. The Equality Impact Assessments provide a clear system of quality assurance, and help our managers and staff to focus on meeting the needs of service users in relation to the protected characteristics (eg sex, race, religion, disability, etc).
