Working with the voluntary and community sector

In November 2010 the Council published its statement on working with the community and voluntary sector  106kb.

The County Council recognises the huge diversity of  the work of voluntary organisations and the enormous difference they make to peoples lives, communities and the environment across the county. The Council particularly recognises the critical role of the sector in supporting some of the most vulnerable members of our communities.

There are many ways in which the County Council works with voluntary and community organisations to achieve results. The majority of this work is with specific services, for example Children’s Services or Economy, Transport and Environment, or working with locally based staff from these departments.

The County Council is signed up to the One Compact for Hampshire which is a code governing the way we work together, this is under review in line with development of the National Compact.

During 2011 the County Council has focused its attention on:

• Promoting an open, inclusive approach. Involving stakeholders early in the design of services with the aim of achieving positive outcomes.
• Ensuring procurement processes support the delivery of best outcomes
• Simplifying access to grant funding

  Voluntary and Community Groups in Hampshire

  There are approximately 8400 voluntary and community groups.  The County Council hosts the e.Volve database where you can find information about organisations.

  Volunteering

  Hampshire County Council values the work done by volunteers and is keen to encourage more people to volunteer in their local community.  If you would like to find out about volunteering opportunities in your area, contact your local centre through Volunteer centres in Hampshire.

  Voluntary & community organisations can apply for County Council grants to help fund projects or proposals that support our priorities.
