Inkpen to Hurstbourne Tarrant
From the village of Hurstbourne Tarrant - a favourite of William Cobbett, author of Rural Rides, the path follows alongside the bed of a winterbourne (a seasonally rising stream) to the pretty hamlet of Ibthorpe, where Jane Austen was a regular visitor.
At the small village of Linkenholt the trail descends, before rising sharply to Inkpen where the Test Way finishes.
From this dramatic chalk escarpment your efforts are rewarded by views of bleak downs to the north and lush plains to the south.
On a fine day you may even glimpse the soaring landmark of Salisbury Cathedral's spire.
