Box 10b Tudor Court: Queen Elizabeth I and a Courtier
This box offers pupils a chance to study Queen Elizabeth I at both Key stage 2 and 3. The costumes may be worn by pupils at Key stage 2 as a role play exercise and can be used to study the lives of rich people during the Tudor period. At Key Stage 3 they may be used as sources of evidence for discussion about life at Tudor court.
Ideal for use with Key Stage 2, years 3 and 4.
Can also be used with Key Stage 3, year 7.
Key learning objectives
- History: To enable pupils to explore what life was like at court during Queen Elizabeth’s reign by wearing costumes during role play and by taking part in group activities.
Key Stage 2: Links to Unit 8 of the QCA scheme of work: What were the differences between the lives of rich and poor people in Tudor times?
Key Stage 3: Links to Unit 5 of the QCA scheme of work: Elizabeth I how successfully did she tackle the problems of her reign?
- Speaking and Listening: To encourage pupils to work effectively as a member of a group using speaking and listening skills.
- Literacy: To explore life in the Tudor Court through secondary sources.
- Citizenship: To understand the kinds of rules in place at Tudor court and their importance in the lives of Tudor people.

Box contents
- Costumes include Queen Elizabeth I silver dress and a typical Courtier’s outfit with ruff and hat with feather.
- Resources include teacher’s notes, books, posters and labels for display.
Hiring the Talking Boxes
Boxes must be collected on Monday between 12 noon and 4.30pm, and returned on Friday before 4.30pm
