Box 18 Going to the Seaside: Seaside Holidays through time

Going to the Seaside contains costumes and artefacts typical of a Victorian Seaside holiday. Pupils are encouraged to consider how seaside holidays have changed since the Victorians first started the idea in the 19th century.

Ideal for use with Key Stage 1, years 1 and 2
Also useful with Key Stage 2, years 5 and 6

Key learning objectives

  • History: To enable pupils to explore seaside holidays during three different time periods, by handling costumes, real and replica artefacts and by taking part in group activities.

  • Speaking and Listening:T o encourage pupils to work effectively as a member of a group, using speaking and listening skills.
  • Literacy: To explore seaside holidays in the past using different types of resources.

Box contents

  • Costumes and artefacts include Swimsuits, children’s books, postcards, jewellery, hats, games and toys.
  • Resources include books, posters, pictures, a CD and activity suggestions.
 

Hiring the Talking Boxes

Boxes must be collected on Monday between 12 noon and 4.30pm, and returned on Friday before 4.30pm
