Box 4 Ancient Greece 1: General Artefacts
This box contains a selection of costumes representing different individuals within Ancient Greek society and ancient Greek myths. The box also contains a number of replica artefacts from everyday life. Useful as both an introductory tool and as support throughout the topic, the box provides opportunity for the exploration of Ancient Greek life and how we use Greek Ideas today.
Ideal for use with Key Stage 2, years 5 and 6
Key learning objectives
- History: To enable pupils to explore what life was like in ancient Greece by handling costumes and replica objects, and by taking part in group activities.

- Speaking and Listening: To encourage pupils to work effectively as a member of a group, using speaking and listening skills.
- Literacy: To Explore interpretations of life in ancient Greece by studying Greek myths.
- Citizenship: To help children understand the differences between life in ancient Greece and their own lives today.

Box contents
- Costumes for a slave, an ancient Greek lady and Zeus (King of the Gods)
- Replica Artefacts including an oil lamp, bronze figure of Athena, painted vase, wax tablet and wooden stylus, long jump weights and ancient Greek coins.
- Resources include books, display labels and a CD of Greek music.
Hiring the Talking Boxes
Boxes must be collected on Monday between 12 noon and 4.30pm, and returned on Friday before 4.30pm
