Mary Rose Loan Boxes
Description
This box has been designed for use by children who are unable to visit the Mary Rose Museum in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard or for activities before or after a visit to the museum.
Based on members of the ship's crew, this box contains replica Tudor artefacts, plus additional resources including books, posters and a teacher's manual.
Ideal for use at Key Stage 2 (Year 3 & 4 Rich and Poor in Tudor Times and Year 5 & 6 Tudor Exploration)

History:To enable pupils to handle replica artefacts from the Mary Rose and take part in group activities.

This box has been designed for use by children with special needs who are unable to visit the Mary Rose Museum in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard or for activities before or after a visit to the museum.

Based on two themes old/new and rich/poor this box contains replica Tudor objects and other sensory resources including smells and music. Topics include:
- Hygiene
- Work
- Food and Cooking
- Clothing
- Time
- Leisure
The teacher’s manual includes information, line drawings, a guide in symbol-supported text plus ideas for lessons for pupils working between levels P1-P8 and L1+.

- Artefacts include quills, tankards, wooden and pewter plates, inkwell, comb, whistle, game and counters.
- Costumes include a velvet cloak, a leather jerkin, coifs (caps), a velvet hat, a mitten.
- Resources include a teacher’s manual, CD of Tudor Music, posters, Mary Rose guide book, matching activity, smell cubes.
