Waste and Recycling

Furniture reuse schemes

If you have some furniture items that you wish to dispose of but which are still in good condition, you could consider donating them for reuse so that someone else can make use of them. This is good for the environment as it saves raw materials and is a key element of the 'Waste Hierarchy'.

Hampshire County Council is a supporter of the Hampshire Furniture Reuse Network (HFRN) which is a local welfare assistance project that supports individuals or families by providing access to affordable, or sometimes free, furniture items during times of hardship. The project will accept most household items for reuse, but items that are of particular interest include:

  • sofas
  • fridge freezers
  • cookers (or microwaves)
  • dining tables
  • washing machines.

If you have some items that you think may be suitable, see Hampshire Furniture Reuse Network for more information.

A number of other organisations in Hampshire also accept household goods for reuse, many of whom are supporters of the HFRN. A selection are listed below - please contact the organisations directly for details of what they accept.
