Waste and Recycling

Household Waste Recycling Centres

Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) are for Hampshire residents who need to dispose of bulky household waste which will not be fit in the standard kerbside bins. There are 24 in Hampshire, with one in Southampton and Portsmouth respectively.

These sites are often referred to as 'tips' or 'dumps' but they have an important recycling function. The HWRCs in Hampshire have an average recycling rate of 60%.

Site staff are encouraged to recycle or reuse as much waste brought to the site as possible. They are permitted to sell on suitable items. Certain items are banned from direct sale to the public by Trading Standards.

The HWRCs tend to be busier at weekends, particularly during the summer. To avoid long waits, you should consider visiting during the week or making use of the longer opening hours in summer.

For further general enquiries about site policies and information, you are advised to call 0845 603 5634 or e-mail us.
