Alternative ways of disposing of waste
Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) are licensed only to accept household waste (i.e. waste arising from a normal household). This does not include waste created by paid tradespersons working on your home.
In addition to using Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs), there are a variety of ways to reuse, recycle or household waste in Hampshire.
Your local district council will offer a bulky waste collection service (please contact them directly for details).
A number of community organisations will take furniture and/or other household goods in good condition for reuse - see the Yellow Pages for details.
Licensed private waste contractors will, often for a fee, either collect or take deliveries of household waste and other kinds of waste not accepted at HWRCs.
A leaflet is available listing some of these alternative local options for disposing of waste. The companies are not endorsed by Hampshire County Council, but are listed as a guide to some of the available options. The leaflet is available from HWRCs and Information Centres, and can also be viewed online:
Companies and organisations providing waste disposal services to householders
If you have a large amount of waste to dispose of, you should consider hiring a skip or dumpy bag. To see a list of Trading Standards approved skip contractors, go to www.buywithconfidence.info.
Trade waste disposal
Anyone who has received any payment for carrying waste or produces waste from their work cannot take this waste to an HWRC. In order to assist traders in disposing of their waste correctly, Hampshire County Council has compiled a list of licensed waste collection contractors and waste facilities which, for a fee, accept various types of trade waste for disposal or recycling. The companies listed are not endorsed by Hampshire County Council, but are listed as a guide to some of the available options. The leaflet is available from HWRCs and Information Centres, and can also be viewed online:
