Waste and Recycling

Answers to frequently asked questions

Section 7:  Alternative disposal methods

Common questions in this section:

Why do HWRCs not accept trade waste for a fee?

HWRCs are not licensed to accept trade waste for disposal or recycling. Allowing traders to dispose of trade waste on sites would also make them extremely busy and detract from the service provided to householders. Preventing traders from accessing HWRCs allows us to improve the service for residents and make HWRCs more pleasant to use. A comprehensive list of licensed alternative disposal routes for trade waste is available, including methods for reuse and recycling.

Where can trade waste be taken?

There are a number of options for disposing of trade waste. Many charity and community organisations offer reuse and/or recycling schemes for unwanted items or materials. There are also a variety of facilities which will recycle or dispose of trade waste for a fee. For details on these options, ask for the leaflet on alternative disposal routes for trade waste at any HWRC or Information Centre, or view the information online.

How can someone with a large amount of soil and/or rubble and/or DIY waste get rid of their waste?

Please see the leaflets on acceptance of soil and rubble and DIY waste at HWRCs and alternative disposal routes for household waste, available from any HWRC or Information Centre, or view the information online.
