City Space at Winchester Discovery Centre

A trip to Winchester Discovery Centre provides an opportunity to share in the history and culture of England's ancient capital.

A specially-designed exhibition area on the ground floor featuring a changing programme of exhibitions, ranging from displays drawn from the vast collections held by Winchester City Council's museums service to installations by some of our talented local artists. Every exhibition is brought to life by a range of talks, workshops and other activities such as object-handling sessions, with opportunities to explore new hobbies and interests or simply to lose yourself in another era.

With a special emphasis on families during the school holidays, the programme includes opportunities for everyone to participate, and to celebrate the special quality of the city and its surrounding towns and countryside.

Andrew Carnie - Seized Out Of This World Exhibition

4 July to 26 July

A visual exploration of temporal lobe epilepsy and its creative effects

Andrew is a local artist who is currently part of the teaching team in Graphic Arts at Winchester School of Art. His artistic practice involves interaction with scientists in different fields in particular the area of medical research. His pieces often involve the use of 35mm slide projection using dissolve systems or video projection in a darkened space with layered images appearing and disappearing on suspended screens. He also creates sculptural pieces, sequences of printed images suspended on wires or on acrylic plates sealed in cases which often replicate the dissolves used in the projection work.

Temporal Lobe Epilepsy has affected many creative individuals and is thought to be the source of much creative inspiration.

Much of the work and research that exists is very visual leading to a goldmine of information for a visual artist like myself interested in the visual and the underlying neurological condition’ – Andrew Carnie.

Andrews work has been exhibited extensively including in the Science Museum, London, the Design Museum, Zurich, the Natural History Museum, Rotterdam and Exit Art, New York.
