Edwardian Summer

13 July – 8 September

This fascinating family friendly exhibition looks at the period between the end of the Victorian Age and the start of the Great War. Discover what life was like for people in the Edwardian country estates, the rural villages and historic towns like Winchester before their world changed forever.

There will be lots of things to do in the exhibition with quizzes, art activities and a country house mystery to solve!

As part of Winchester Discovery Centres Great Creepy House adventure the Cook at the Big House has asked our sleuths Jack and Lucy to solve the Great Jam Robbery! Can you find clues in the exhibition to help them?

Kathakali: the cultural heritage of Kerala

14 September – 6 October

With stunning costumes, fabrics and other artefacts this exhibition will bring alive the vibrant and colourful tradition of Kathakali dance and drama. From its origins in Kerala in south-west India, visitors will be taken on a journey into the rich cultural heritage of the Kerala community who left their homeland to settle in Hampshire.

Discover the history of these dances, dramas and rituals, how they changed over time and how they have adapted to life in Hampshire.

A trip to Winchester Discovery Centre provides an opportunity to share in the history and culture of England's ancient capital.

A specially-designed exhibition area on the ground floor featuring a changing programme of exhibitions, ranging from displays drawn from the vast collections held by Winchester City Council's museums service to installations by some of our talented local artists. Every exhibition is brought to life by a range of talks, workshops and other activities such as object-handling sessions, with opportunities to explore new hobbies and interests or simply to lose yourself in another era.

With a special emphasis on families during the school holidays, the programme includes opportunities for everyone to participate, and to celebrate the special quality of the city and its surrounding towns and countryside.
