Viewing copies of films held elsewhere
We are able to provide reference viewing copies of films held by other organisations, thus enabling visitors to see items of local interest in the region itself, rather than travelling to London. This is the case for items from the British Film Institute National Film and Television Archive, the Imperial War Museum Film and Video Archive, and Commander Bird's films of Wickham, etc.
A programme has been devised to selectively copy newsreel items of local interest held by British Pathe. In the case of the two local broadcasting companies, BBC South and Meridian Broadcasting, it is not normally possible to view their library material, due to lack of staff and facilities, so WFSA provides the only viewing service. Lastly, two museums which prefer to look after their own film collections have allowed us to make video viewing copies: Winchester City Museum and Poole Museum.
