Ice Prince cargo
Hampshire County Council’s emergency planners are working closely with other agencies to prepare for the impact of cargo from the stricken Ice Prince coming ashore on the county’s coastline.
The Maritime and Coastguard Agency is currently leading the at-sea response to the incident.
Around 2,000 tonnes of timber from the deck of the ship which sank in the English Channel on 15 January are drifting towards the coastline and some planks may come ashore in Hampshire.
Anyone who discovers washed up timber planks ashore must report them to the Coastguard at Lee-on-the- Solent on: 023 9255 9021 or 023 9255 9022
A contractor has been appointed for the removal of the timber and will do so as soon as possible. Police forces have powers from the Receiver of Wreck to act on her behalf. Anyone failing to comply could be committing an offence for which they may be arrested and may, on conviction, be fined up to £2,500.
