Open Art Exhibition

23 March – 13 April 2013

General Information  

The exhibition is open to all amateur* artists living, working or studying within the Borough of Basingstoke and Deane. Entries selected for the exhibition will be hung in the Exhibitions Gallery at Willis Museum.

A Maximum of three works can be submitted at £3 per artwork.  
The fee covers admin costs and the prize.

We would like to see a wide range of art, including paintings, textiles, photographs and crafts – our only condition is that it can be hung on a wall on open display ( see below for rules on presentation and hanging).  

*Amateur for the purposes of this exhibition means artists who are not wholly earning their living from their art.

Prizes.

Visitors will vote for their favourite work in the exhibition and a prize will be awarded to the winner.

Judging

The popularity of this exhibition means that not all works submitted can be shown. All entries will be judged by an independent panel. Entry Money will not be returned for unsuccessful entries.

The judges decision is final and the Museum cannot enter into discussion about individual entries or artists.

This can be collected from the Museum 21, 22 and 23 March during Museum opening hours.

Collection of work in the exhibition

The exhibition closes on 13 April 2013. The collection period will be 17 - 20 April.

Please note that no work can be removed before the end of the exhibition.

Insurance

Works submitted and/or exhibited will NOT be insured whilst on Museum premises. Please ensure that art work is covered by your own household insurance whilst on loan to us.

Presentation and Hanging

All works must be framed and have mirror plates affixed before they are brought to the Museum. Work that does not have mirror plates will not be accepted. We regret that we are not able to accept unframed glass items, We reserve the right to not accept work that will not withstand installation by our staff and public display.

Sales

You are welcome to sell your artwork if you wish. A 25% sales commission, plus VAT on the commission, will be deducted from the selling price (where applicable) on the completion of the sale by the Museum. Please allow for this in your stated sale price. Please note that payment for sales goes through Hampshire County Council and can take up to 3 months to come through.

 

How to enter

All entries must be on the official form which can be downloaded below or collected from the Museum

Submission forms should be returned to Willis Museum by 9 March 2013.

Works should be submitted to Willis Museum 14, 15 and 16 March.
The Museum is open Tuesday - Friday between 10am and 5pm and Saturdays 10am – 4pm.
