What is your current role and how long have you been at Hampshire County Council?
Senior Quantity Surveyor since 1999.
What are the main responsibilities in your role?
Document preparation for major bridge and highway schemes.
Supervision and guidance of a small team of QS’s working on a wide range of projects. Auditing and advice to other departments and other authorities.
Estimating and financial monitoring from feasibility stage through to project completion.
What is a typical day for you?
On average 70/30 split between office and site based duties.
I prepare documents for new projects or advance completed final accounts. I give advice to Engineering staff on procurement, legal and financial issues. Site duties include attending meetings, agreeing re-measurement and additional items.
What are the biggest challenges you face in your job?
Continually improving the way we do things.
