Quantity Surveying Technician (Advanced) - Job Summary & Person Specification

To prepare and assist with the production of bills of quantities/activity schedules and estimates.
To provide technical and administrative assistance to the Quantity Surveying section and Engineering Consultancy.
Prepare and assist in the preparation of estimates, bills of quantities/activity schedules and contract documentation for all types of highway and structures projects (for internal and external clients). Responsible for accurately taking off quantities and preparing items for estimates and contract documents to standard that requires final checking by others.
Use of PC based systems for contract document preparation and the compilation of methods of measurement within complex contractual documents.
Carry out the measurement of construction work on site and agree data with external contractors.
Perform site duties as directed by a Senior Quantity Surveyor and agree financial records with external contractors.
Calibrate, check and maintain measuring equipment used by the Quantity Surveyors section in accordance with procedures and record results.
General office duties including filing, copying, assembly and production of contract documents, maintaining office equipment and supplies.
Collation of external pricing data for estimating.
Assistance with the preparation of financial reports for Clients.
Record, manage and maintain legal documents and financial regulations on behalf of the Quantity Surveying section.
Update and maintain database of projects and performance criteria.

Maintain awareness of the corporate aims and initiatives and encompass them into project delivery by giving priority to quality services and sustainable development in the departments activities.

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Significant computer skills, particularly in MS Word and Excel.
Understanding the complex nature of methods of measurement and integration into contract documents.
Understanding of QS procedures, conventions and terminology.
Experience and knowledge of accounting systems.
Knowledge of specialist quantity surveying software (e.g. CATO).
Understanding of Methods of Measurement principles and practices.
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
Positive attitude to self development and development of others.
Ability to make sound financial judgements.
Organise own personal workload.
