Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP)

A Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) can be useful to anyone when planning and managing their well-being. WRAP is a simple self management tool which helps people gain more control over their well-being. It is intended to help people plan for themselves how best to maintain wellness, reduce and better manage periods of illness.

What is WRAP?

  • It is a simple self management tool which helps you gain more control over your well-being. It is intended to help you plan for yourself how to maintain wellness and reduce, and better manage periods of illness
  • It is a highly individualised plan which is developed and owned by the person who writes it
  • It is intended to help you manage a variety of long-term illnesses, whether or not you choose to receive formal services
  • It is a living, working document, open to changes and new experiences. It is intended to be kept open as ‘work in progress’ and to be continually updated.

The value of a WRAP plan is not just in creating it but in using it regularly and developing it on the basis of further experience. We encourage you to read it through daily, to put it into action at times of difficulty, to review and amend it after difficulties so that you can learn from what worked, what didn’t, what we can do better for the future.
