National Year of Reading

Bring Reading to the Workplace

In this communication age literacy forms an integral part of our society, crucial for success and social well-being. Organisations and individuals alike can play their part in bringing the National Year of Reading into the workplace and investing in literacy. Here are some suggestions:

  • Book Swap Boxes - set up a workplace library and encourage borrowing. The books could be brought in by staff or donated by the company. Placed in anything from a simple cardboard box to a shelved area with comfy chairs.
  • Quick Reads
A series of books ideal for those new to reading, getting back into the reading habit or just looking for a slim volume. Perfect for the Swap Box, all from bestseller writers, or available to borrow from Hampshire Libraries.
  • Reading Groups
Helps staff get to know each other better and work more effectively as a team. A great range of booksets are available from Hampshire Libraries.
  • Magazines - have magazines and newspapers available in reception, staff rooms and canteens.
  • Family Friendly - encourage staff to bring in books their children have grown out of so they can be passed on to other parents, grandparents and family.
