  • Community-based activities facilitated by in-house services
    This document describes the department's requirements in relation to those activities that take place outside of residential units and day centres and involve service users being assisted by staff to maximise their independence skills and exercise choice.

  • Hazard Reporting
    This procedure describes the process by which premises-related health and safety hazards are reported and dealt with.

  • Stress management
    This document describes the department's requirements and expectations in relation to stress management.

  • Control of substances hazardous to health (COSHH)
    This document sets out the Department's requirements in relation to the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002. It lists the management standards expected for controlling COSHH in the workplace .

  • Moving and handling of people and objects
    This document sets out the Department's requirements in relation to both the moving and handling of people and objects whether that be in an office location or residential, nursing, respite, domiciliary, day care or any other setting.

  • Risk assessment
    This document sets out the Department's requirements in relation to health and safety risk assessment.

  • Emergency evacuation of buildings (other than for fire)
    The procedure describes the responsibilities of managers to ensure that they have made suitable arrangements for the evacuation of premises in an emergency and their employees are aware of the local and departmental procedures.

  • Residential & nursing care practice manual

  • Furnishing and fabrics, purchasing standards
    The objective of this procedure it to define the Departmental policy on quality standards, including fire precautions for the provision of new furnishings and fabrics, including those brought into units by residents.

2005

  • Disaster recovery
    This document is the Departments’ Policy on continuity of service in the event of the loss of an office base or local loss of access to critical systems, applications or data.

  • Premises management - alcohol and entertainment licences
    This procedure advises Unit Managers of the requirements which must be met when proposing to sell alcohol or provide public entertainment on Adult Services premises.

  • Use of Adult Services premises by other organisations
    The objective of this procedure is to set out the basis on which the department’s premises may be used by other organisations and to ensure that all health and safety and other statutory and financial regulations are observed. This procedure applies to all Adult Services residential and day care units. Additional conditions may apply in leased premises.

  • Furniture and equipment - acquisition, repair and maintenance
    The objective of this procedure is to set out the County Council’s and Social Services Departments requirements for the purchase, repair and maintenance of furniture and equipment. This procedure applies to all operational units and office bases. This procedure does not apply to voice / data or other information technology equipment. See Procedure 28/03.

  • Unplanned referral protocols for short stay services (adult learning disability)
    To ensure that all staff involved in making or receiving unplanned admissions to in-house short stay services (Adult Learning Disabilities) are clear of the process both prior to and during the admission.

  • Lifting operations and lifting equipment
    To describe the Department’s requirements in relation to the safe use, maintenance and purchasing of any lifting equipment and other aids that are employed in moving and handling operations involving Social Services employees and service users.

  • Contract management - social care contracts
    The Procedure provides guidance for managers and contract support staff involved in the management of contracts for Social Care Services. It sets out the procedures and processes associated with good contract management and the respective roles of managers and contracts support staff.

2003

  • Hot surfaces)
    The procedure describes the responsibilities of line managers to ensure that hot surfaces in their area of responsibility do not present a risk of burning anyone who might come into contact with them.

  • First aid and emergency aid
    The procedure describes both the responsibilities of managers to ensure that their employees are suitably covered by first aid provisions in their workplace and, where necessary, that employees are properly trained to provide service users with an appropriate level of response.

  • Regulation of investigatory powers Act 2000
    This procedure sets out the responsibilities placed upon all departments of the County Council with regard to investigations which are subject to the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 (RIPA). This procedure should be followed with effect from 1 February 2003 and gives guidance on how to obtain authorisation for investigations where ‘covert surveillance’, the use of a ‘covert human intelligence source’ or telephone interception is required.

    This document is the Department's Policy on preparedness for and response to a Major Incident or Civil Emergency

  • Work equipment
    The procedure describes the responsibilities of managers in relation to the selection, purchase and maintenance of work equipment and towards their staff who may use it during their employment

  • Personal protective equipment
    The procedure describes the responsibilities of managers in relation to staff who need to use personal protective equipment.

  • Work experience students
    The procedure describes the responsibilities of managers who take charge of students before, during and after work experience placements.

1998

  • Premises - closure
    The objective of this procedure is to define the respective roles and responsibilities of staff in the Social Services and other Departments relating to the closure of establishments. This procedure does not cover issues relating to residents or staff, nor does it cover offices which are the responsibility of Property Services.
