Carers and family support

Emergency Respite and Planning Service

Carers often worry about what will happen if, at short notice, they are unable to care, however advice and free care support for up to 48 hours is available for carers in the event of an emergency.

You can access this service directly by calling 0845 604 1577

The Emergency respite and Planning Service is provided by the Princess Royal Trust for Carers in Hampshire who will provide you with support to discuss, develop and implement your own emergency plan.

Once your Emergency Plan has been completed and signed they are backed up by a 24-hour telephone line 0845 604 1577.

Having an emergency plan offers peace of mind and helps to secure the best support arrangements for the person that you care for. You can also access information about other services available and up to 48 hours of care services free of charge in the event of an emergency.

A Carer’s Emergency Card is included in The Carers' Information pack (or you can complete and print a copy of the card now Microsoft Word 138kb). This card, which includes emergency contact numbers, should be carried in your bag or wallet. In the event of an accident, this would help alert police officers, the ambulance service or other emergency response staff to the fact that there is also someone else in need of help.
