Friends and Volunteers

Volunteers have the chance to become part of the team at this amazing historic site, helping out with a range of tasks from greeting visitors to gardening - or even giving guided tours (training will be given!).

The minimum age for volunteers is 16 but there is no upper limit.

Volunteers play an important role in contributing to running services in Hampshire’s communities. Volunteering also helps you to gain new skills or you can offer us your experience from your area of expertise.

Friends of Basing House

You can also help support Basing House by joining the Friends organisation.

As well as volunteering the Friends also help to raise funds, eg. for developing the site museum or buying important items, such as the special display case for the 17th century Basing House 'Raised Work' Embroidery which can now be seen in the Willis Museum in Basingstoke town centre. Please contact us for information about becoming a member of the Friends of Basing House.

English Civil War Society and The Sealed Knot

The English Civil War Society and The Sealed Knot work in partnership with Basing House. They have, for many years, re-enacted battles and provided a living history experience for our visitors.

Basingstoke Archaeological & Historical Society

The Basingstoke Archaeological & Historical Society undertake the annual community archaeology excavation.

Friends of Ancient Monuments (FOAM)

The Friends of Ancient Monuments often help out at Basing House. This year they helped to clear the Tudor fishponds.
