Hampshire School Nature Watch gets children out of the classroom to enjoy nature at first-hand.

  • School Nature Watch

    More than 21,549 children from 132 schools signed up for Nature Watch 2009 which took place during National School Grounds Week.

    Outdoor study has many positive effects on children's behaviour, learning and health. Hampshire School Nature Watch grew from an idea that children benefit greatly from direct contact with nature. School Nature Watch links into many areas of the national curriculum and is an excellent 'sustainable school' activity.

    Children taking part in Nature Watch go into their school grounds to look for a pre-selected range of plants, animals and habitats. The project shows children and teachers that school grounds provide a great opportunity for learning about biodiversity and the natural environment, and that nature can be found everywhere. It also stimulates children's interest and concern for their local environment.
