State of Hampshire's Biodiversity

This report examined changes in our natural environment from 1996 to 2006. It outlined key successes and identified future challenges. Key findings:

  • decline of species is slowing

  • loss of biodiversity to development has been reduced

  • freshwater and wetland habitats are in poor condition

  • Hampshire's coast is under increasing pressure from sea-level rise

  • many grasslands and woodlands are not being managed to conserve their biodiversity

  • effects of climate change on Hampshire's biodiversity is uncertain
