Hampshire village shops
Event: Thriving and Surviving
A Conference for those who own, manage and work in Hampshire village shops took place on Thursday 22 January at the Grand Harbour Hotel, Southampton – specifically designed to coincide with the Local Produce Show in the same location.
Representatives from thirteen village shops from around the county met to learn from each other and from rural retail and funding specialists, to find out more about the Post Office Community Grant scheme, and to receive support on complex financial management systems.

The event was kindly sponsored by REPOSS and by Waltet, and managed by Business South in partnership with Hampshire County Council, for whom this event is the fourth it has offered to rural retailers over the last five years.
Hampshire County Council is a strong supporter of the county’s rural shops which it considers are an intrinsic part of community life. It has for several years offered grant funding to shops which are the only ones in the village, and / or to create shops in villages where there is no shop.
Grant funding is available to assist village shops in improving their offer, increasing footfall and sustaining a prosperous business into the future.
