If you’re a young person aged 16 – 18, who isn’t in training, education or employment, then our Work Trials scheme could be just what you’re looking for.
The Deal
A three to six month work trial placement with a daily training allowance
You will be working directly with an employer
You will gain hands-on experience
You will receive support from a training provider.
And it could be a great route onto an apprenticeship.
Why?
Work experience gives you the opportunity to:
improve your chances of finding work
see how the skills you already have can be used in a workplace
gain real life work experience
build your confidence
improve your CV
have a work reference you can use when your applying for jobs.
It gives you the opportunity to take part in a work placement with a real employer. It could be helpful if you have little or no recent work experience.
Am I eligible?
To apply you must be:
A Hampshire resident (this doesn’t include Southampton or Portsmouth residents)
Aged 16 – 18 years old
Currently unemployed, not in education or in training.

What is a Work Trial?
A work trial is an opportunity for you to work with an local employer in order to gain work experience to add to your CV.
How long does will it last?
The work trial will last for between three and six months and you will work for between three to five days per week.
How much is the daily training allowance?
You will be paid a daily training allowance of £10 per day. You may also be eligible for a bursary of up to £1,200.

Will I be taken on after the placement finishes?
If your placement was successful, we would hope that it would lead to either a job offer or an apprenticeship. However, you will continue to receive support from us afterwards.
What is the employer expected to do?
Your employer will make sure that you have an opportunity to experience work within their organisation. You will be able to add this to your CV. The employer will support and supervise you while you undertake the work placement.
What support will I get from the training provider?
The training provider will support you and the employer to set out your work role and responsibilities. They will meet with you weekly to check progress and ensure that both you and your employer are happy with the progress being made. The training provider can also help you identify qualifications you might find useful.
Will I be an employee?
No, because you will be enrolled on foundation learning, you will remain a trainee during the placement.
