Modernising and changing services

Limited resources and changing levels of need mean that the County Council has to rethink how its services are developed and delivered. We know our services are high quality, but they need to be delivered more efficiently. This priority is about:
- Targeting services to those most in need.
- Delivering more services in partnership with other organisations.
- Involving local people more in developing services.
- Making services more personal, so people have choice and control over the services they use.
- Using other providers to deliver some services.
In 2011/12:
More than 300 units of Extra Care housing were opened during the year across the county, allowing older people to remain living in their own home, with the reassurance that support is available when needed.
We successfully recruited new volunteers for Community Museums, helping to keep valued local facilities open.
New providers took over the running of Hampshire’s children’s centres, with services being delivered from a range of community venues. Plans for the future include improving speech and language therapy services and targeting support to families most in need.
Plans to make small reductions in opening hours at 26 of Hampshire’s 53 libraries and Discovery Centres were approved. Over 5,500 consultation responses shaped the final proposals.
