Etchings and hand coloured lino cuts by Pete Durnell
I have worked in nature conservation for over 20 years and currently manage a number of sites including the Lymington-Keyhaven Nature Reserve and Titchfield Haven. I gain much of my artistic inspiration from the wildlife and landscapes of the Hampshire coast.
Having ‘dabbled’ with lino cuts over the years the recent acquisition of a small etching press has given me a new impetus to try different techniques. I particularly enjoy the uncertainties associated with making etchings and mono prints.
Each print is unique with subtle differences which are only revealed when you peel the paper from the plate.
An exciting but unpredictable moment.
All prints are signed limited editions and available either framed or unframed.
I like to paint in a very loose watercolour style, the wildlife and environment which is all around my home in the New Forest.
The scenery and its inhabitants change with the seasons and this plays a major part in inspiring my work.
I try with each of my pieces to encourage the viewer to search for the story behind the painting.
