Friends of Royal Victoria Country Park
We are a group of volunteers who help out in all sorts of ways on behalf of the local community that uses this beautiful space.
Hampshire County Council owns and runs the Park but rely heavily on enthusiastic, local people to help out with much of the conservation work, events, routine maintenance, educational activities and patrolling etc.
You can do it on your own or in organised groups making new friends and learning new skills! And don’t worry you can do as much or as little as you want, every little bit helps!
Our Conservation/practical task group meets on the 1st and 3rd Thursday (10am – 12.30pm) every month – please call Nicky (023 8060 5102) for details. Our Gardening group meets every Thursday afternoon (1.30pm – 4pm) of the month – please call Michele (023 80605101) for details.
As well as supporting the Park team we also organise our own projects and events to help raise money. We have a dedicated team of tower tour guides and exhibition stewards as well as a team organising regular second hand book sales, teas and cake stalls.
We are also becoming increasingly involved with finding new sources of grant money for finding bigger projects to improve the Park’s amenities. In 2008 we secured £7,000 of lottery funding for our Pond Plaza project.
Its not all hard work! You can join in with our social activities. As well as our annual summer BBQ and Christmas Party, we also meet up once a month for a ‘Friends’ meal at a local pub.
As a member you will also receive quarterly newsletters with all the latest ‘Park’ and ‘Friends’ news.
