Hampshire Ethnic Minority and Traveller Achievement Service (EMTAS)

Referrals

Making a referral to Hampshire EMTAS

Our New Arrivals Strand is co-ordinated through the Basingstoke Office. Schools should ring the New Arrivals Manager at the Basingstoke Office, as soon as they receive, or know they are about to receive a pupil, for whom English is an additional language. If you prefer, you can send information using a new arrival referral form Download Acrobat Reader to view this PDF 127kb.

We do not take referrals from parents, nor do we need their contact information, unless they need to be contacted by a Bilingual Assistant to discuss a forthcoming early profiling visit.

What we will ask for

We will need basic information on the pupil - name, date of birth, year group, language, ethnic origin, date of arrival in the UK, when the pupil is going to start at the school, plus any relevant information on previous education and language acquisition. You will also need to nominate a School Contact, through whom Hampshire EMTAS can liaise.

Early profiling visit

Having made your referral you will be contacted by a bilingual assistant or specialist teacher within 2 weeks, to arrange a time for an early profiling visit, when an early profiling assessment will be made of the pupil's language skills and cognitive level.
