Traveller Ascription leaflet 414 kB

EMTAS has worked closely with Swanmore C of E Primary School to identify Traveller based texts at KS1and KS2 that can be incorporated into Guided Reading Sessions. A set of discussion questions has been produced to accompany each of the texts in order to support a member of staff using the books to address any cultural issues that may arise.
EMTAS has compiled a book list 71 kB of these titles. Schools can borrow the books which have been turned into packs to support group reading activities. Each pack includes a set of 6 books and discussion questions. Some packs include additional activities that can be used to supplement group reading. A synopsis of each book is given in the downloadable list and an indication of the Year Group for which the text may be suitable.

'Education for all' DVD
EMTAS has produced a DVD for Traveller parents which explains how education can support Traveller children and young people. It is called "Education for All". Watch a clip on YouTube or contact Graham Ellwood (Graham.firstname.lastname@example.org) to buy a copy of the full DVD.
EMTAS has a Traveller Persona Doll which can be borrowed by schools. ‘Chantelle’ comes with her own bag of items special to her, a story that reflects aspects of Traveller culture and a scrap book detailing the Hampshire schools she has visited. Especially popular during Gypsy Roma Traveller History Month (June), Chantelle can visit your school at any time of the year and she is an accessible way of introducing aspects of GRT culture to Key Stage 1 children in particular.
