Welcome to the Hampshire Music Service (HMS)
Our commitment is to give every child a chance to participate, enjoy and achieve by making music together. The benefits of music are very wide-reaching. Feedback from schools, parents and children show that the opportunities we offer through Hampshire Music Service have a very high impact indeed.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Seasonal office closure: Thursday 25 December up to and including Thursday 1 January.
After a successful and eventful year for HMS, including breaking the Guinness World Record for the ‘Largest ukulele ensemble’ and winning a National award for Services to jazz education. We are geared up for an even bigger and better 2015, continuing as lead partner of the Hampshire Music Education Hub.
We wish you all a wonderful Christmas break and a motivating start to the New Year. Please do support and enjoy all the many community music groups out there to get in the holiday spirit!
We kick off with our Orchestral Percussion day on 18 January at Perins School, Alresford. Please see our Calendar to see what else we are up to in 2015…
On Sunday 8 February 2015 we are hosting a Jazz Masterclass with Steve Waterman, one of the country's leading jazz soloists.
The day will include a series of master classes, workshops and rehearsals which will be suitable for pupils who play brass, wind and rhythm section instruments (percussion kit, guitars and piano). The minimum recommended standard for this day is Stage/Grade 4.
During the evening there will be a concert which will feature an ensemble made up of all the participants from the day, the Romsey Area Youth Jazz Orchestra and Steve Waterman!
We are able to provide this amazing experience for U18s for £10pp!

'Song of the week'
Monday 8 September 2014 - Week One went live and we're racing through the weeks, including one with a signing video!
A brand new resource for Hampshire primary schools...
Each week of term, for the 2014-15 academic year, you can explore a new song to use in the classroom or with your choir. Our team of vocal specialists have carefully selected and written songs to suit primary voices which are easy to use regardless of your singing experience. You will find songs from lots of different genres, some unaccompanied and others with backing tracks and there will always be a ‘sing along’ track with our easy to use PowerPoint to help with learning the song. Each song will also have a ‘ hints and tips’ page with further ideas so that you can explore the song in as little or as much detail as you like!
Bring your children through the school terms with themed songs matched to the time of year!
The Hampshire Music Service are delighted to be a BBC Ten Pieces Champion!
Ten Pieces is an exciting new national initiative for all 21,000 primary schools in the UK, led by BBC Learning and the BBC performing groups, focussing on classical music and creativity. It aims to introduce a generation of children to a range of classical music and inspire them to use the music as a stimulus for their own creativity. Pupils may respond to the pieces of music through music composition, dance, digital art and other art forms as well as taking part in performances of the pieces.
The 'Ten Pieces' :
John Adams: Short Ride in a Fast Machine
Beethoven: Symphony No. 5 (1st movement)
Britten: 'Storm' Interlude from 'Peter Grimes'
