Hampshire Music Service is staging the Battle of the Bands 2012 Final at Ferneham Hall at 7pm on Saturday 5 May. The four bands – 13:32, England Road, Flashfires and The Kalebs – have all come through a challenging qualifying process, with an initial selection by CD followed by live heat rounds. They will be judged on the day by an expert panel with a diverse collection of skills and experience who will apply rigorous standards to pick a winner.

The winner’s prize will include a prime spot at the concert at Hampshire Welcomes the World - The Big Event at Staunton Country Park in July, organised by Hampshire Music Service and inspired by the London 2012 Games.

The Final in May is open to the public who can buy tickets from Fernham Hall box office (01329 824864). They are promised an exciting lineup: 13:32 is a hard-hitting power trio whose members have a maturity beyond their years; England Road is a solid and experienced band that knows how to work an audience; Flashfires are moody and confident with a coordinated band style; The Kalebs are stylish, polished and musically sophisticated.

Dean Hallett – Area Leader and rock music project leader with Hampshire Music Service and Battle organiser – says, We’ve all been knocked out by the quality of the bands in this year’s Battle. This competition is a great stepping stone in their career and will be a fantastic experience for them. Any one of them would wow the crowd at a festival and I wouldn’t be surprised to see one or more of them in the charts in the future.”

Battle of the Bands 2012 is part of an extensive range of rock music opportunities offered to Hampshire’s children by Hampshire Music Service and has included rock workshops with industry musicians (such as ‘Hampshire Rocks!’ with the drummer Andy Burrows), band coaching, Guitar Clubs, live shows and performance opportunities for young bands.
