Hampshire Music Service: Music Curriculum Information
Welcome! This section of the Hampshire Music Service web site is organised by the Curriculum team. It is designed for class music teachers so that they can share resources, learn about standards, and keep up to date with latest events, news and information. The intention is that it will be inter-active, in the sense that teachers will be able to find here materials and examples of work that can influence the way they work.
It will be a constantly evolving site, as teachers contribute more and more materials in a wider range of music education contexts. The first materials and information presented here are only a start, and as a consequence, you may find that some links are not yet 'live'. However, we intend to add significant amounts of material in the near future, so please visit this area again soon!
Music Curriculum Team
The curriculum team within Hampshire Music Service provides support to all Hampshire schools for both class teaching and extended curriculum activities. The team therefore provides support to Primary, Secondary and Special schools, along with support for the Extended Curriculum, including Singing, Recorders, Gamelan, Rock and Pop music, African Drumming and Samba.
The team consists of Inspectors and a Senior Manager (Primary), Primary Music Consultants, Vocal Coordinators, and a Coordinator for World and Rock Music.
The team's aim is to help raise standards of music provision and teaching within Hampshire schools at Key Stages 1 - 4, so that standards of pupils' musical achievements in school are improved.
To achieve this, the team's objectives are to establish, maintain and develop a range of support strategies for Music education. The strategies include a balance of:
Inspecting, monitoring and giving advice to schools;
Provision of teaching to schools;
Continuing professional development opportunities for all teachers;
Documentation of various sorts;
Networking mechanisms;
A variety of developmental workshops, festivals and special projects for all pupils and their teachers
There is also a consistent effort to develop among Hampshire's teachers of music a county-wide culture of sharing resources, ideas and research about music education. Please visit the individal homepages for further details.
