The Road to Rio Legacy Challenge
As a nation we face a huge challenge with regard to the health of our future generations. Of particular concern is the issue of healthy weight in children of school age. We wish to capture the inspiration generated by the London 2012 Games to help schools address this.
The Road to Rio challenge is designed to encourage young people in Hampshire to take part in more physical activity & sport. The challenge is very simple – For pupils to take part in 2016 minutes (35 hours) of extra curricular clubs involving physical activity in the run up to the Rio 2016 Olympic & Paralympic Games.
The clubs can be before school, lunch time or after school. Once the session has been completed pupils get their teacher to stamp their card.Certificates, prizes or medals can then be awarded (Gold, Silver or Bronze) for the number of hours completed.

Curriculum Development BoardThe Physical Education Curriculum Board acts as the driving force behind good practice in teaching & learning and innovation in physical education in Hampshire.
- Provides a focal point for curriculum development in PE across all age phases and for the dissemination of good effective practice.
- Promotes country-wide dissemination and monitoring
- Interprets national policy and curriculum development initiatives to provide support for Hampshire teachers of physical education
- Advises the Hampshire PE and School Sport Partnership (HPESSP) of curriculum CPD need
- Informs the PE conference of potential focus areas for the annual conference
- Highlights good practice and practitioners
- Plays part in the annual review of the PE Strategy
